In
recognition of the help given by the Maratha
Rajahs to Christians, bishop Heber directed
the church authorities to pray for the welfare
and prosperity of Raja Serfoji and his descendants.
Raja Serfoji gave a huge area, known as mission
area to Thanjavur Christians. The non Christian
Raja allowed and helped Christians to build
churches over there. Until today that area
belongs to Christian families.
